Pan Pacific Hotels Group announced today that it will enter the Australian market with three properties by 2011.

This marks the beginning of its presence in what will be a new growth market for the Singapore-based hotel management company, which owns and/or manages more than 30 hotels, resorts and serviced suites with over 10,000 rooms in Asia and North America under the acclaimed Pan Pacific ® and PARKROYAL® brands.

The three new properties in Australia will be PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, Sydney (rebranded from Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour) and PARKROYAL Parramatta (rebranded from Crowne Plaza Parramatta) in Sydney. The third will be Pan Pacific Perth in Perth, Western Australia (rebranded from Sheraton Perth). All three hotels are owned by Pan Pacific Hotels Group.

“We are entering Australia with three great hotels,” said A. Patrick Imbardelli, President and CEO of Pan Pacific Hotels Group.

“That we commence our journey in this very important new growth market with both our Pan Pacific and PARKROYAL brands is even more significant. We are delighted to be able to introduce the Pan Pacific hallmark of personalised service even as we reconnect the PARKROYAL brand with consumers, guests, and all of our stakeholders in this market and create memorable hotel experiences for each one of them.”

The 345-room PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, Sydney – which opens November 2010 – enjoys a prime location in Sydney and sits just minutes away from Darling Harbour, the Sydney Convention and Entertainment Centre, George Street, Chinatown and the Queen Victoria Building.

PARKROYAL Parramatta, which opens November 2010, boasts 196 rooms and is located in the city centre in the heart of Parramatta’s trendy Church Street, a popular dining and shopping precinct on the banks of Parramatta River.

The rebranding of these two Sydney hotels marks the re-entry of the famous and respected PARKROYAL brand in Australia. The brand has its roots in Australia with the first PARKROYAL hotel in Melbourne (and named after the Royal Park opposite) opened in 1962.

Meanwhile, the 486-room Perth hotel will be rebranded Pan Pacific Perth and opens in January 2011. The hotel offers great views of the Swan River and boasts extensive meeting and banqueting facilities with 11 spacious function rooms, as well as an entire level dedicated to seven boardrooms with state-of-the-art technology.

Outside Australia, Pan Pacific Hotels Group is also looking to expand its hotel portfolio under its PARKROYAL and Pan Pacific brands in North America, Asia, Greater China and New Zealand.

PPHR Associate takes on Sahara Race!

I would like to introduce our associate Jane Peng and a great undertaking she is currently pursuing. Jane is a Business Analyst in the corporate team here in Singapore and in the last months, she has been training hard for a personal pursuit while juggling the challenges of every day work!

In October, Jane will be running the Sahara Race ( ) a 7-day, 250 kilometre foot race across the Sahara in Egypt.

This annual race is named by TIME Magazine as one of “The World’s Top 10 Toughest Endurance Races”, so you can imagine how vigorous and challenging this training period is for Jane.

Only 130 competitors competed in last year’s race, and out of this only about 20% are female competitors. Competitors will navigate the sand dunes and plains of the Sahara in Egypt while carrying all that they need on their backs. This includes 7 days of food supply, sleeping bag, clothes and survival tools.

Also significant is the fact that Jane, at 24, is currently the youngest female participant in the Sahara race. And, in the spirit of Pan Pacific Hotels Group’s values – “caring for our community through connected and sharing” – Jane is, through her participation in this grueling race, adding a charitable cause to her pursuit.

She is targeting to raise SGD60,000 for World Vision – a non-profit development and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.

We at Pan Pacific Hotels Group are every bit behind Jane and are the title sponsor of her wonderful endeavour. I urge you and our hotels to throw your support behind Jane in any way you can. More information about how she is raising funds for World Vision and how you and your hotels can help is attached in this presentation that Jane has put together.

Jane can be contacted at and has even created a personal blog at to detail her experience preparing for this race, as well as to serve as a channel to raise funds and create awareness for her cause. She will also be blogging live on her website during the course of the 7-day race.

Thank you Jane for championing this cause and flying the Pan Pacific Hotels Group flag high. You are truly a shining ambassador for our “Great Brands, Great Hotels, Great People and Great Relationships!”

Pan Pacific Hotels Group has announced it will open new properties Pan Pacific Ningbo and Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Ningbo in Zhejiang, China.

This follows the signing of a management agreement with Ningbo International Trade Investment and Development Company Limited at the 12th Zhejiang Investment and Trade Symposium on 8 June 2010.

The 430-room Pan Pacific Ningbo and 200-room Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Ningbo are located at the gateway of an upcoming industrial and economic zone in Ningbo, and are part of a mixed-used development by Ningbo International Trade Investment and Development Company Limited. The mixed-used development also includes the Ningbo International Conference Exhibition Center which will feature 10 main halls totaling over 600,000 square metres. In addition a new commercial district and up market residential area is evolving in the immediate area.

The opening of these new properties in Ningbo is part of Pan Pacific Hotels Group’s Greater Shanghai strategy to establish its presence in Shanghai and the fast-growing cities surrounding it including Suzhou, Hangzhou and Shaoxing. The Group also opened its seventh Global Sales Office in Shanghai earlier this year.

“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity and delighted to commence this partnership with Ningbo International Trade Investment and Development,” said A. Patrick Imbardelli, President and CEO of Pan Pacific Hotels Group. “Both Pan Pacific Ningbo and Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Ningbo are significant and important brand-defining additions for us – as we seek to build our presence and create memorable hotel experiences for more guests in China.”

Pan Pacific Hotels Group currently manages Pan Pacific Xiamen and Pan Pacific Suzhou in China. Pan Pacific Suzhou was recently named one of China’s ‘Top 10 Most Popular Resort Hotels of 2010’ in the very prestigious Golden Pillow Awards. Now in its seventh year, the Golden Pillow Awards are jointly held by China’s top financial medium 21st Century Business Herald and China’s first “Business + Travel” magazine and decided on by a panel comprising business experts, media, hotel investors and millions of votes from netizens.

Pan Pacific Ningbo and Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Ningbo are scheduled to open end 2011. The latter marks Pan Pacific’s third Serviced Suites property and second outside Singapore, after Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Bangkok.

On Thursday, June 17, 2010, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in The Bar at Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle, local authors and husband and wife, Kerry Colburn and Rob Sorensen will read from their recently published book How to Have Your Second Child First: 100 Things That Are Good To Know…the First Time Around. The lively pre-Father’s Day event will begin with beverages and a reading from the book, followed by a question and answer session that promises insight, entertainment and great fun for all. Colburn and Sorensen will be available to autograph books, and books will be available at the door for only $18.95 (cash or check only). Reservations are not required for this event, but are encouraged.

“One of the unique things about our book is that it really comes from the perspective of both parents,” Sorensen says. “We hope both moms and dads find it helpful and reassuring for that first year with a new baby.”

Any parent of more than one child will tell you, things are much easier the second time around. In this warm and reassuring book, scores of real-life second-time parents offer first-timers their stories and lessons learned. One hundred accessible entries guide parents through pregnancy and the first year of life, covering everything from birth plans and breast feeding to finding a parental comfort zone. With a dose of patience and a sprinkling of humor, How to Have Your Second Child First helps first-times navigate parenthood with savvy and calm of moms and dads who have been there before – twice.

“We are pleased to welcome back Kerry and to be among the first to showcase these delightfully entertaining author’s new book,” said Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle General Manager David Sullivan. “The book offers valuable advice to parents, soon-to-be-parents, and anyone who is looking for answers about parenting.”
